EPA gives access to information on industrial releases

July 28 -- The latest data on industrial and toxic releases in the country by the Environmental Protection Agency can help both industry and community members to access information that may be impacting their health and environment.

The Preliminary 2009 Database Facility Report allows users to search for release, waste transfer and waste quantity reports, and obtain preliminary data by viewing national, state and county information.

The search also generates results containing all or specific industries, showing names, addresses and chemicals being released. More information can be found by clicking on facilities´ names, which leads to a Facility Profile Report.

Because EPA said it believes the summary of partial dataset can be misleading, only individual-level data in the Facility Report are included in the 2009 TRI preliminary dataset and the database will not show totals for any release category until the dataset is fully completed and available in September.

The EPA encourages users to learn more about the dataset by visiting the questions and answers section or watching a tutorial available on the website. For more information about the data, visit www.epa.gov/tri.
