Report: Enviro regulations to push auto-industry mergers

March 18 -- Environmental regulations will help push merger and acquisitions in the automotive sector in the years ahead, according to a new report from KPMG LLP.

The audit, tax and advisory firm said that these complex environmental regulations along with overcapacity and competition should push the automotive sector into the increased activity.

"Although a large portion of the global automotive industry is still experiencing some levels of economic distress, the timing couldnīt be better for stronger companies with access to capital to assess potential targets," said Gary Silberg, national automotive industry leader for KPMG LLP.

The report, "The Transformation of the Automotive Industry: The Environmental Regulation Effect," is at http://www.us.kpmg.com/services/content.asp?l1id=10&l2id=620&cid=3393.
