System converts OCC to animal bedding
Ken Mills Engineering, of England, has developed a system for processing old corrugated containers into a dust-free, low-cost alternative to traditional bedding products for horses and other animals. The material, which is biodegradable, outperforms straw, wood shavings and shredded paper as animal bedding, according to the company. More than 3,000 pounds of OCC can be shredded in one hour, the company said. A pneumatic conveying system transports the shredded material to a rotary separator, where the product required for bedding is removed from the airflow. The system uses negative air pressure, resulting in both a dust-free product and a dust-free working environment, according to the company. After separation, the bedding material drops into a bagging press, where it is weighed, compacted and packed into polyethylene bags. The system also can process wood shavings, shredded paper and chopped straw. For details, call 011-44-1706-644698. (Sept. 11, 2000)
