End-of-life electronics recycling effort to kick off Nov. 1

Oct. 31 -- Electronics manufacturers have begun building a national recycling infrastructure to collect and recycle end-of-life electronics.

Electronic Manufacturers Recycling Management Company LLC, known as MRM, will kick off the effort, Nov. 1, with 160 drop-off locations in 10 states, including California, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The company, which was created by Panasonic Corp. of North America, Sharp Electronics Corp. and Toshiba America Consumer Products LLC, will continue expanding until its services cover all 50 states, said David Thompson, MRM president.

The original three companies will be the first to use the service to operate their individual recycling programs, but it will be open to all manufacturers. MRM has implemented and manages recycling services in Minnesota and Texas for some 25 electronics manufacturers to help them comply with those states´ electronics recycling laws.
