Founded by two Ohio colleges -- Ohio University and Miami University -- in 2001, the RecycleMania drive is now in its 10th year and includes more than 500 colleges and universities.
Participating schools collect aluminum, glass, cardboard and paper. Over a 10-week period beginning Jan. 17, schools record recycling tonnage and vie for top ranking in categories that include the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita and the highest recycling rate.
Last year, 69.4 million pounds of refuse were recycled through RecycleMania efforts.
