Companies to collect data systems, donate proceeds

Dec. 15 -- Data storage firm KOM Networks and Dell Computers´ OEM division are joining up during the holiday season to collect obsolete data storage systems and donate proceeds from recycling the materials to feed hungry children.

The "Junk-A-Juke" program will allow companies to securely upgrade their sensitive data storage systems with new servers. Obsolete data solutions will be safely recycled, and proceeds from the recycling will go to the Feed the Children charity. The companies have said their goal is to recycle enough electronics to feed one million children through the program.

KOM has partnered with Technology Conservation Group to pick up and track each piece of equipment through destruction to ensure that no e-waste materials are sent to landfills.
