Converted Organics gears up for holiday food waste

Nov. 23 -- The average American throws out 100 pounds of food waste annually, with solid waste generation increasing by 25% during the holiday season, according to one composting company.

Boston-based Converted Organics is gearing up for the busy holiday season, in expectation of turkey carcasses, leftover stuffing and uneaten cranberry sauce as leftover holiday dinners from Thanksgiving to New Years end up in the trash.

The company is one of several across the country that collects food waste and composts it into fertilizers for homes, golf courses, and agriculture. Converted Organics is currently available at independent garden centers across the country, as well as at The Home Depot throughout the North East region.
