The council also recertified 18 other programs as protected habitats, and Waste Management now has 73 programs operating, the Houston-based solid waste management company said.
Waste Management has a goal to earn WHC certification of 100 programs and preserve 25,000 acres by 2020.
The Wildlife Habitat Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the quality and amount of wildlife habitat on corporate, private and public lands.
"WHC´s work proves that corporations and advocates can work together to improve the environment," Waste Management CEO David Steiner said.
