Owens Corning launches asphalt shingle recycling

Nov. 4 -- Building materials company Owens Corning is launching an asphalt shingle recycling program with the help of Heritage Environmental Services, the largest privately held environmental services company in the country.

Heritage will provide dedicated drop-off centers that will recycle and process "shingle tear-offs," Owens Corning said.

Owens Corning, which conducted a pilot program in Indiana, will now roll out the program nationally, starting in the Midwest, the company said.

Contractors pledge to recycle their shingle "tear-offs" as part of the program aimed at keeping shingle waste out of landfills.

"This program makes recycling easy, and provides our contractor network with an opportunity to clearly differentiate themselves by providing a complete roofing system including a sustainable end-of-life recycling option for old shingles," said Sheree Bargabos, president of Owens Corning Roofing and Asphalt.
