Honda reduces production waste going to landfills 80%

Oct. 20 -- Honda has reduced the amount of production waste heading to landfills in North America by more than 80% since fiscal year 2001, the company said.

American Honda Motor Co. Inc. is out with its latest environmental performance report that also indicates the company wants to virtually eliminate all waste heading to landfills by fiscal year 2012.

By cutting production waste by 82.7% between fiscal year 2001 and fiscal year 2009, which ended in March, the company has exceed its target of a 70% reduction.

"Despite the incredible challenges that our industry has faced over the past year, Honda remains committed to minimizing the environmental impact of its operations in North America," said Tetsuo Iwamura, chief operating officer of Hondaīs North American regional operation.
