The single-stream recycling facility has the capacity to process 45 tons of material per hour and currently processes 750 tons per day, the company said.
Work began in September 2008 to transform the location into a single-stream facility.
"Casella undertook this multi-million dollar renovation because we believe single-stream recycling is the wave of the future," said John Casella, president and CEO "By going to a Zero-Sort process, municipalities can save money on trash disposal while increasing the rate of recycling among residents and local businesses."
Boston began single-stream recycling with Casella in July of this year. Residents now combine their recyclables in one 64-gallon wheeled barrel.
A similar Casella facility is located in Auburn, Mass., the Rutland, Vt.-based company said.
