The Save the NRC Coalition, made up of current and former NRC leaders, members and recyclers, considers the move a takeover that would go against the NRC´s original goals. It would make it part of an organization that historically has opposed progressive recycling policies, such as bottle bills, producer responsibility and zero waste, according to the Save the NRC Coalition.
Voting against the merger could force the NRC to file for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code to reorganize approximately $500,000 in debt. It also could lead to the coalition dissolving completely or merging with another organization, according to the Save the NRC Coalition.
The effort is part of the California Resource Recovery Association´s opposition to the proposed merger. More information is available at www.crra.com/crranews/vote_no_kab.shtml.
