Burt´s Bees to offset all electricity use

Feb. 13 -- Burt´s Bees Inc. has bought enough renewable energy credits to offset 100 percent of the company´s electricity use.

The Durham, N.C.-based natural personal care product manufacturer is purchasing the credits from Renewable Choice Energy in Boulder, Colo. The approximately 4 million kilowatt-hours of renewable credits will come from wind energy projects and will avoid the same amount of annual carbon dioxide emissions as removing 562 cars from the road, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates used by the company. Burt´s Bees also is encouraging its employees to sign up for Renewable Choice Energy´s home wind-power program.

"In addition to the energy and resource conservation efforts we currently have in place, the purchase of wind RECs is a step in the right direction as we do our part to move our country toward a more sustainable energy future," said John Replogle, president and CEO of Burt´s Bees.
