NSWMA calls on electronics makers to take lead in recycling

Feb. 22 -- The National Solid Wastes Management Association has updated its policy on the recycling and disposal of electronic waste, calling on manufacturers take responsibility for the material.

The association strongly favors advanced recycling fees or manufacturer responsibility requirements, said Chaz Miller, director of state programs for the NSWMA.

The associationīs new policy cites several steps manufacturers need to take to increase the recyclability of their products, including eliminating hazardous materials from their construction and designing products that are easier to disassemble and recycle.

Manufacturers also need to support programs to develop new recycling technologies and end markets and use recycled content in electronic products, according to the NSWMAīs new policy.
