Water federation to study ways to improve wastewater infrastructure

ALEXANDRIA, VA. (April 9) -- The Water Environment Federation will review the U.S. water and wastewater infrastructure to develop options for municipalities to address aging and failing systems.

The group has formed a task force to review the issue of infrastructure management and investment. Robert McMillon, past president of the federation, and James Canaday, director of the Alexandria Sanitation Authority, will chair the task force. The first meeting is scheduled for April 27 in Alexandria, Va.

The task force´s mission is to propose and promote a three-year educational program focusing on the health benefits of a well-maintained water and wastewater infrastructure. The Water Environment Federation wants to address issues involving water quality in major metropolitan areas, especially communities facing investment and management shortcomings.

The Water Environment Federation, founded in 1928, is a nonprofit educational organization that works toward the preservation and enhancement of the global water environment. The federation´s network includes water quality professionals from 79 member associations in more than 30 countries.
