EPA to hold public hearings on mercury, air quality proposals

CHICAGO (Feb. 23) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold a two-day hearing Feb. 25-26 in Chicago to allow the public to participate in open comment periods on proposals to reduce power plant emissions.

The hearing will solicit comment on the proposed Utility Mercury Reductions and Interstate Air Quality Rules. The EPA proposed both rules in December. The agency also will hold concurrent hearings in Philadelphia and Research Triangle Park, N.C.

The public comment period for both rules will remain open until March 30. Individuals can submit comments electronically, by mail, by fax or by hand delivery.
