Joe was a top reporter who was always so courteous when I wanted to place a story. He was one of the first reporters I talked to when I had something in his area. I will miss him and think of him when I send a press release. My sincere sympathies to his family.--Eileen

How very sad! I always intended to send Joe an e-mail, saying how much I appreciated his timely, objective and accurate reporting. Sure wish now that I had made that small effort. Rest well, Joe. (And good luck finding his replacement, W&R.)

I was always impressed with Joe's reporting on recycling and environmental issues. He took the time to do the necessary research, and wrote articles that were clear, thorough, and accurate. He also seemed to genuinely enjoy talking to people and learning about the topic at hand. He will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Joe at WASTE NEWS and playing a few softball games with him. A true competitor and all around nice guy who would give you the shirt off his back. He will be missed.

I always read Joe's work as it came across 'the wire' and it seemed that he was 'the main man' for WRN. I admired his style and ability to seemingly cover all aspects of the industry. He will be missed. Condolences to those who held him close.

I spent a summer internship working with Joe at Waste News. Every day, he found a way to make me laugh. Some of my favorite memories from the internship were of Joe's stories about the eating contests and marathons he trained for. I know he's running in heaven now.

I am shocked to read this very depressing news about Joe. I've emailed Joe in the past about his articles and he never missed responded back. We didn't always agree but I enjoyed hearing from him. My deepest condolences to Joe's family. Leonard Vinci

I don't play the lottery, but I always thought that if I did play and I won the jackpot, one of the first people I'd call would be Joe Truini, because he's someone I could trust to guard my front door and keep the hordes at bay. I had the pleasure of seeing Joe develop from an intern into a solid reporter at Waste News. I wish I'd stayed in touch with him. This is a sad day. He deserved more time.

Joe was a bulldog of a reporter when I worked with him at Waste News 15 years ago. He always got his information. Imagine my surprise years later when I got to know him out of the newsroom, on the running trails. Yes, he was still a competitor, but one of the gentlest, nicest, most decent guys I ever met, and a joy to pass the miles with. Joe, go set another marathon record, wherever you are. Thanks for all the runs and friendship.

Joe was an intern in the Department of University Communications at UA. Industrious and eager to learn his craft, Joe is most fondly remembered as the kid who looked like a pro wrestler but was one of the gentlest souls we have ever known. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues.

Joe was a fair and balanced reporter who was excellent at saying what was needed in a concise way. He understood the product stewardship movement, and helped create it through his reporting. He will be sadly missed for his great contribution to the field, as well as his kind and friendly manner.

Our trade association addresses issues in the toner and ink jet cartridge recycling business. Joe and I had worked together sporadically for ten years, and every encounter with him was productive and fun. I will be lost without this essential contact and friend. A fine man, Joe has left us way too early. Please let me know who I should contact from now on. Best regards,

To my WN friends: Please know I'm thinking of you today and in the days to come. Joe was not just my cubicle mate for my time at Crains, he was, like he was to all of you, a friend. We liked to argue over the Browns and the Steelers. He liked to tease me when he bought the last pack of Sour Skittles from the vending machine (but he'd usually share.) And he always let me know if he posted Web news items before me. He always had a story and a smile. He was one of kind and a bright light that touched us all. I'll miss you Big Joe.

Joe's name seemed to be at the bottom of every article I stopped to read in Waste & Recycling News, especially online. I am saddened to learn he left us so abruptly. My sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues. He handled alot of responsibility with style and grace.

I met Joe at the NRC Congress in Atlanta. I had a great talk with him, and it was one of my first networking connections. I never doubted that his articles were unbiased, and knew the information could be trusted. This is a loss for the entire industry.

What a shocking loss for his family, and his readers. A good reporter and helpful colleague who I only met virtually, but who was generous enough to connect me to people who have been very helpful in my own work.
