EPA offers grants to promote climate change initiatives

June 25 -- The EPA is making available as much as $10 million in Climate Showcase Communities grants to local and tribal governments.

The grants will help communities establish climate change initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The agency expects to award 20 to 30 cooperative agreements, ranging from $100,000 to $500,000 each.

The grants are available to government agencies including local governments, federally recognized Indian tribal governments, local public authorities, school districts, special districts, intrastate districts, councils of governments, and regional or interstate government entities.

Proposals are due by July 22 at 4 p.m. Eastern Daylight time. The agency will award the grants in January 2010.
