Pennsylvania man charged in theft from metal recycling business

Police in Erie, Pa., charged a 21-year-old man with stealing scrap copper from a local metal recycling business, according to the Erie Times-News.

Ramey K. Britt is accused of stealing $250 worth of mixed copper from Liberty Iron & Metal on Jan. 24. A security guard at the facility witnessed the theft and later caught Britt on some nearby railroad tracks, where he was attempting to burn the insulation off copper wire, the report said.

Britt was arraigned Feb. 20 on charges of criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. He is now free on a $10,000 unsecured bond, according to the report.
