One bag of trash ... for the year!

I am proud of myself if I can get away with throwing away only one bag of trash a week.

John Newson tosses out one bag of trash ... a year.

The 60-year-old living in Balsall Heath, Birmingham, England, composts; grows his own food; carefully sorts cans, paper, cardboard, glass and plastic for recycling; and reuses whatever he can.

The Daily Mail calls him "possibly the greenest householder in Britain."

"People ask, 'Why on earth are you doing this?' I just wondered, if you compost absolutely everything that will rot and recycle everything you can, what will you be left with?

"I wanted to push myself to an extreme to see how far I could go."

What he was left with was one bag, filled with plastic film he could not recycle.

I'm kinda split with Newson. Part of me is inspired, part of me is feeling guilty and part of me thinks this guy is bananas.

Regardless, I bet his crawlspace is full of Styrofoam peanuts, chewed bubblegum and soiled nappies.
