San Jose officials are eying a possible ban on polystyrene foam to-go boxes, the Mercury News reported.
City officials said the amount of trash found on the streets and in the storm drain system has reduced dramatically since a plastic carryout bag ban went into effect this year, the newspaper reported.
City officials said they would present a possible ordinance to outlaw polystyrene foam in early 2013 that would go into effect at the start of 2014 for large establishments and 2015 for smaller establishments.
Some Californian cities have already banned polystyrene food containers, including San Francisco, Palo Alto and San Mateo County, the newspaper reported.
