Months after a federal jury ordered Republic Services Inc. to pay a group of residents $2.3 million in damages for odors from a South Carolina landfill, more residents have come forward to file suit, The State newspaper reported.
Eight more residents have filed suit against the company against the Lee County landfill, the newspaper reported. The new cases ask the court to shut the landfill down if the smells aren't stopped and force Republic Services to pay damages.
The company argued that state regulators did not find an issue with odor at the site, having no violations for odor. Republic has challenged the $2.3 million ruling, the newspaper reported.
