Courtesy, Save Our Santa Santa Claus will continue to ride through the streets of Whitehorse, Yukon, after the city council voted to continue the 20-year tradition.

Yes, Whitehorse, Yukon, there is a Santa Claus. And he'll continue to ride a decked-out garbage truck.

After uproar from residents in the Canadian town decried the recent sale of the city's traditional illuminated garbage truck driven by Santa, the city council voted during a Nov. 26 meeting to provide Old St. Nick with an elf chauffeur and a one-ton retrofitted trash truck, CBC News reported.

Santa and his elf will continue the 20-year tradition, taking to the city streets Dec. 18-20.

"Administration really, really worked to try and find something that would substitute and hopefully look as good," City Councilor Betty Irwin told the news organization. "So I'm happy with the outcome. Not totally, but I'm content with the outcome."

The Motor Vehicle Branch will need to approve the Santa truck and it will need to pass the city's safety inspection, the news organization said.
