CommentsA Hyattsville, Md. contractor pleaded guilty to unlawfully disposing solid waste and performing construction without obtaining an approved sediment control plan, the state's attorney general announced.
American Contractors Inc. was sentenced to pay $14,290 in restitution for the clean-up of the waste and was fined $30,000. The company was also placed on probation for five years.
The Calvert County Department of Planning and Zoning caught the dumping after investigating complaints of illegal dumping. Investigators found C&D debris, mattresses, toilet fixtures and other debris dumped.
"Illegal dumping and failure to control sediment run-off can inflict a costly blight on any community," said Douglas Gansler, Maryland's attorney general, in a statement. "This office is committed to the enforcement of these laws that protect the health and home values of Maryland property owners."
