Chicago Public Schools will save nearly $500,000 in waste hauling after renegotiating the district's deal with Allied Waste Transportation DBA Republic Services of Chicago.
The two year contract, from Jan. 1, 2013 to Dec. 31, 2014, will cost the district $4.925 million, the district said, a reduction over the previous two year contract of $5.473 million.
"At a time when we are coping with immense fiscal challenges it is imperative that we find every possible way of trimming our expenses in ways that do not impact student instruction," said Barbara Byrd-Bennett, the district's CEO in a statement. "We have been, and will continue to be, aggressive in looking at every contract and every dollar spent on goods and services to find savings wherever we can."
