Georgia county pays antilandfill group's legal fees

Officials in Ware County, Ga., voted to pay $115,000 in legal fees for a group that opposed a deal to send fly ash to an unused county landfill, the Florida Times Union reported.

The county agreed to pay the legal fees to Anti-Landfill Corp., which opposed the county's deal with North American Metal Co., the newspaper reported. The group said it was never properly notified of the plans.

The county also settled with North American Metal for $750,000, after the company pulled out of the contract because of public response to its presence, the newspaper reported.
