Study: 63% of consumers know where to recycle electronics

Nine out of 10 consumers believe it's important to recycle electronic devices and 63% of consumers know where to recycle the items, a study from the Consumer Electronics Association said.

The organization said the awareness of where to recycle electronics is on the rise in the United States.

"The [consumer electronics] industry aims to make recycling consumer electronics as easy as purchasing them," said Walter Alcon, CEA's vice president of environmental affairs and industry sustainability, in a statement. "The marked increase in consumer awareness of how and where to recycle their electronics illustrates the progress our industry has made on this issue."

According to the study, 60% of consumer electronics owners removed at least one device from their home in the last year with 48% of those consumers donating the device for reuse. Another 26% of those who removed the item from their home recycled them.
